“Are you going back home?”

“I’d like to…”

I know this and accept your reasons, but do not tell you this.

Instead, I pull up my wall, as you pull me in close.

“If you are going back then keep pulling away,” I say into your ear.

My eyes start to water.

I change the subject. Briefly; composing myself.

You let me go.

Then pull me in again, tight, I continue,

“I mean it. I’m not doing this again.”

I can feel your soft lips on my cheek.

Your body close to mine.

My voice wanting to quiver and crack.

I maintain control.

You leave.

The tears do not come.

For I accepted you would never be mine a long time ago.
